The broad perspective

So Close so Far

You may always link facts with plausible favourable explanations. Call it telling yourself nice stories to catch a distance. "The way we interpret what happens to us has a greater impact on our quality of life that the events themselves."

Art is everywhere

It is worth to see the exhibition of The Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw 1904-1944 in Zachęta National Galery of Art ( till 26th August).

‘Art is everywhere’ – in a cup, on a plate, in a book. Anything can be considered a piece of art; from a chair or an advertisement to an object found in urban space. The exhibition in Zachęta presents the history of the Academy of Fine Arts between 1904-1944. At that time artists associated with the Academy were focused on blurring the lines between ‘pure’ and ‘applied’ arts. Additionally to the paintings and sculptures, one can find at the exhibition excellent examples of Polish industrial designs, advertising posters, sketches of stage design and book graphics.

"Real" by Karen Taylor-Good & Angela Kaset

Dear Pinoccio,

Do you really want to be real
Are you ready to be disappointed
Are you resistant to illusions

But I guess you want to feel a surge of hope
and wait for the moments of cheerfulness and inspirations

Dear Pinocccio
Are you ready to be lonely
and from time to time
happy

Dear Pinocccio
Are you resistant to illusions
Be real then

Act with due caution – be aware – a holiday’s joke

Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson went camping. They pitched their tent under the stars and went to sleep. Some time in the middle of the night, Holmes woke Watson and said: ‘Watson, look up at the sky and tell me what you see.’
Watson said: ‘I can see millions and millions of stars.’
Holmes said: ‘And what do you deduce from that, Watson?’

Watson replied: ‘Well, if there are millions of stars, and even if a few of those stars have planets, then it’s quite likely there are some planets like earth out there. And if there are planets like earth out there, there might also be life.’
And Holmes said: ‘Watson, you idiot, it means that someone has stolen our tent.’

The bright stars among us

There are stars whose radiance is visible on Earth though they have long been extinct. There are people whose brilliance continues to light the world though they are no longer among the living. These lights are particularly bright when the night is dark. They light the way for humankind. -Hannah Senesh, poet, playwright, and paratrooper (1921-1944)

Valentine Love

Valentine by Carol Ann Duffy

Not a red rose or a satin heart.

I give you an onion.
It is a moon wrapped in brown paper.
It promises light
like the careful undressing of love.

Here.
It will blind you with tears
like a lover.
It will make your reflection
a wobbling photo of grief.

I am trying to be truthful.

Not a cute card or a kissogram.

I give you an onion.
Its fierce kiss will stay on your lips,
possessive and faithful
as we are,
for as long as we are.

Take it.
Its platinum loops shrink to a wedding-ring,
if you like.

Lethal.
Its scent will cling to your fingers,
cling to your knife.

Daffodily hopes for 2012

Time for good relations, exercise, painting, writing post and poems, listening to music, if teaching would be possible. Time to finish an embroidery The Starry Night. Time for exercise and healthy eating. Time for music and art. Time for languages and gram of light.
The emotional light.

Winter

I choose white, but with
Red on it, like the snow
In winter with its few
Holly berries and the one
Robin, that is a fire
To warm by and like Christ
Comes to us in his weakness,
But with a sharp song.
